If you are a beginner musician, keepi
ng things simple is possibly your best bet. There are a great number of simple and inexpensive looping pedals available to you, and these are typically much less technical and much easier to learn & master. The downside is that you may quickly outgrow the simplicity of such a pedal, and you may find yourself right back at your local music store looking for something more involved to keep up with your skill level and talent.
Simple single button Loop pedals are typically around or below the $100 mark, and likely easy to find in a second hand store or on the “Used Gear” shelf of your local music store. Amazon, Reverb, Guitar Centre or other online shopping networks are also worth looking at.
You’ll find all sorts of features in this category of pedal, with a few various options t
o consider. Mainly, you’ll see differences in loop length, how many layers (overdubs) you can add onto a loop and whether you can save your loops before powering off your gear. With recent advances in pedals, you’ll find some that might also include built-in tuners, USB Connectivity, LED displays and more.
Generally, any pedal at this level may quickly become almost obsolete and/or lose it’s resale value even before you bought it. I absolutely recommend a little homework on your part to find out anything that you may consider an important detail before buying, and compare everything available at your price point to get the best buy for you. There may be a lesser known brand offering features you never even considered, or there may be user reviews that caution against some models or brands.
In short, you are pretty much on your own when
it comes to deciding how to spend your money & time. Google & Youtube can be your best friends these days, so be informed and look for user reviews and informative gear channels for insight & info. It takes very little time & effort to be far more informed than the average salesperson in many music stores !!
Some common brands in this price range include:
TC Electronics, Lekato, Mooer, NUX, Ammoon, Joyo, Keeley, EHX, Rowin, Donner, Aroma, Sonicake, Digitech, and many more.
