Boss RC-2   – Release Date;  July 2006

The first single button looper pedal released by Boss, the now-discontinued RC-2 looper pedal may be getting hard to find today.

It had a whopping 16 minutes of mono recording time, at 16 bit, 44.1 Khz sampling rate, 11 Memory locations, Tap Tempo, Auto Record and Loop Quantize as well.

You’ll find a  1/8″  Aux input to play backing tracks, and/or audio clips that can be captured to a loop. The only way to control this input level however, is externally.

There is a Control Input for a external foot switch to be added, such as a Boss FS-5u, so that you can add a Stop/Tap Tempo functionality. Although apparently undocumented, you could actually use a dual foot switch like the Boss FS-6 or FS-7, which will let you have Memory Increase as well as Stop/Clear.

The RC-2 was also equipped with a rudimentary Rhythm Guide (aka Drum Patterns/Rhythms) and there were 33 Rhythm patterns and several time signatures to choose from.

Separate level controls for the Loop Level and the Rhythm Level gave you pretty good control of your output mix, using a two-level split knob just as many other Boss effects pedals have used.

There are no secret button combinations or hidden menus to find, everything is directly accessible via the clearly labelled buttons, knobs and switches on the unit.

Think of the Boss RC-2 as a single button, single track version of the RC-20XL … it is otherwise very similar, and was a very solid unit. Well worth picking up one of these little beasts, if you can find one!

Standard single switch looping applies when using the RC-2. The main foot switch gives you:

• Record/Play/Overdub on a single press
• Undo/Redo on press & hold (when track is playing)
• Stop on Double tap
• Clear on press & hold (When track is stopped)
