The Singular Sound BeatBuddy 2 has hit the shelves and tho it felt like a long time between its announcement in June 2025 and it’s actual availability a few months later, in September, it looks to have been worth the wait.

Beautifully redesigned in Black & Gold, and re-imagined with new specs, features and controllability, the BeatBuddy 2 looks to be another showstopper for Singular Sound of Miami, Florida.

So what has changed from the original BeatBuddy ?? Where can we begin ??

First off, the new look in black with gold buttons & trims is stunning, matching the looks of the the Singular Sound Aeros Gold Edition Loop Studio, as well as the complimentary SuperSwitch which has been designed to heavily accentuate the BeatBuddy 2. As we all know, looks aren’t everything, and this new drum pedal has plenty more to rave about.

There are now two main foot switches that can control the pedal in many assignable ways, and in each state of play the pedal is in, they can have completely different functions, as assigned by you in the extensive menus. Each song you store can have seven different parts with 3 different fills in each part, intro, outro, and transition parts.

The two main foot switches themselves are very high quality, mushroom shaped metal switches that are very smooth & completely silent to operate. Whether you’re wearing shoes or performing barefoot, these switches are very easy to operate, and you wont want or need to add plastic mushroom caps to these controls.

There is a brilliant large multi-coulour display that is twice the size of the original BeatBuddy, and you get lots of information in every state of play the pedal is in, including what the function will be of each pedal in the current state of play. The display is more graphic oriented than text oriented, and is much easier on the eyes, giving more useful information at a glance than the predecessor was able to. The menus are complex but well thought out and very intuitive, considering how extensive the menu options are. You’ll even find help screens to explain each parameter in the menu options if/when necessary.

Out of the box, the BeatBuddy 2 is loaded with 13 drum kits and 230 songs spread across 23 genres. However, it can hold up to 320 drum sets, and an insane 3.2 MILLION songs that you can download or create yourself !! The BeatBuddy 2 can utilize the new High Definition drum samples (it comes with 3 HD Drum kits pre-loaded) that are a much larger file size due to containing far more velocity information within the samples. The HD Drums will have a much more realistic sound due to having so much more velocity range. It will feel more like being right beside a real drummer, and if you ‘Turn up the Drunk’ setting, (yes, thats really an option) you’ll never know its not an actual live drummer!!

As mentioned earlier, there are 2 ports for external footswitches that are completely configurable to whatever functions you wish. You could use two of the FootSwitch+ pedals from Singular Sound, or maybe an expression pedal and a Footswitch+. If you were to use Singular Sound’s SuperSwitch, (which uses a proprietary signal transmission) you will gain substantially more control in that there are now 6 switches (that beautifully match the BeatBuddy 2 switches, in appearance as well as in function) and each button can be configured for all of 3 different states of use: when Playing, when Paused and when Stopped. That now is 18 functions! Add to that the fact that you can depress any two adjacent switches together and send both commands at once. That’s already an incredible amount of control. But wait, there’s MORE !! You can actually use TWO SuperSwitches, one in each of the external controller ports, for an astounding 36 commands of your choosing!!

Good Lord, WHY? HOW?

We haven’t even mentioned things like going into half tempo, double tempo, Auto-Pilot with manual over-ride control capability, dynamics control, output volume control, headphone volume control and so much more!!
