The Nu-X Hook Drum & Loop pedal, aka NDL-3, is a very good small footprint mini-pedal with an integrated beat-sensing drum machine that can add quite a lot to your looping experience. What this does is detect the tempo you play into your first loop recording. It then can add a drum pattern at an appropriate tempo to your project. Alternatively you can use a tap tempo button to input a tempo, then start your drum pattern to play along to. Also available is Auto-record, which will allow you to arm the pedal for recording, but it will wait for you to start playing before automatically starting the loop record. To set the pedal to Auto-record, you have to hold the pedal switch down while powering it up. The colour of the Drum Tap Indicator LED lights either Red or Blue to indicate whether you’ve started in Normal Recording or Auto Recording Mode. NDL-3 pedal offers 11 different Drum beat styles and rhythms for you to work with.
24 bit, 44.1Khz sampling and 6 minutes total recording time with unlimited overdubbing, combined with True Bypass and Analogue Dry-Thru will give you a great sounding looping experience thats on par with some of the best loopers available.
The Loop track and the Drum Rhythms are independent of each other, so you could stop your loops while the drums continue if you so desire, and re-start the loops when you wish.
Being one of the only small loop pedals that have a headphone output means you can play without waking up the neighbours or the audience members who have forgotten to go home before falling asleep. The Headphone out may also provide an extra routing option for some scenarios and/or creative options. You’ll also find some useful reminder information printed on the left side of the pedal.
USB Connectivity allows for file transfer in & out, as well as firmware updates as they come available. Free apps for file conversion and transfer are available at the Nux website to help you facilitate these processes.
