Boss RC-10r – Release Date: July 2019
The Boss RC-10r may be the most under-rated looper pedal in the Boss line-up. I would say this is likely because some (somewhat) popular & (arguably) overly influentual gear reviewers on Youtube, forums & discussion groups have either completely ‘dropped the ball’ or just failed to spend more than a few moments evaluating this particular pedal. Maybe they found it a little too complex & cumbersome explore the menus & manuals, maybe they were not motivated to bother, or maybe they just couldn’t get one for free from a sponsor. At any rate, this pedal is a fantastic tool for certain Looping Artists if you explore the device’s specs & details and are in the market for something that is high quality, flexible, somewhat programmable and yet still very simple to use.
Sporting all of the usual looping functions & features that have come to be expected and are available in nearly all of the better Loop pedals from most brands, the RC-10r brings you:
- Record/Play/Overdub (or Record/Overdub/Play)
- Unlimited Overdubbing

- Undo/Redo
- Stop/Clr
- 2 Looping Tracks
- Aprox. 6 hrs Stereo Looping time
- 32 bit, 44.1Khz recording quality
- 32 bit floating point processing
- Seperate Track/Rhythm Level Knobs
- Stereo Input
- Routable Stereo Output
- Option to add either 2 Cntl Foot Switches or an Expression Pedal
- Extended control with Midi In/Out
- USB connectivity for File Transfer, Firmware and DAW Interface
- Dual LED Display Rings

The built-in Rhythms component of this looper is quite possibly the very best in all of the Boss Loop Station Line Up. That is actually something think about!! The RC-10r’s built-in advanced rhythm processor utilizizes high quality drum samples from both Roland & Boss, and includes:
- 280 Rhythms to choose from
- 99 Project Memory locations
- 50 User Rhythm location
- 24 voice polyphony
- Each Rhythm pattern can utilize two variations, two different fills, intro & outro parts
- 16 different Drum kits
This pedal really does pile on a good number of great features, and brings you very much up-to-date in the looping world. Some drawbacks however, could be considered:
- Only 1/4″ inputs (No XLR input for mic)
- No Headphone Out
- No Input Level controls
- Overdubs are same length as the Base layer
- Menu navigation requires some exploration
- No easy method for ‘All Clear’ at the end of a song
