Boss Rc-1 – Release Date: Sept 2014
The Boss RC-1 is probably the simplest, most basic & intuitive looping pedal offered by Boss. Consider it to be Boss’s entry level looper.
With only a single foot switch, you can Record, Play, and Overdub with no limits, as with most simple looper pedals. Press & Hold while playing, will allow you to Undo/Redo the last recorded layer. Press & Hold while the track is stopped will delete the track. A large multi-colour LCD display informs you of the Loop’s current status and lets you see where in the loop you are.
Stereo inputs & outputs give you a good amount of versatility, with up to 12 minutes of stereo looping time. For added control, you can connect up to two external footswitches such as a pair of Boss FS-5u switches, a single Boss FS-6 or a single Boss FS-7 foot switch. (An FS-5L Foot Switch can NOT be used, as it is exclusively a LATCHING type pedal)
When powered down, the most recent recordings in the memory will be automatically saved for you to continue working with the next time you power up the pedal.
The RC-1 can run on a 9v battery or on a standard 9vdc power supply (not included).
Boss does stand by their products with a standard 5 year warranty.
Recording quality is 16 bit, 44.1 Khz sampling rate.
There are 3 settings (noted by LED Colour) that can be changed in the RC-1, and each of these 3 options have only 2 possible settings (Top half or bottom half of the display ring)
These selections can be accessed by holding down the main foot switch while powering up the pedal.
- (Red) Record/Overdub/Play (Top) or Record/Play/Overdub (Bottom)
- (Green) Immediate Stop (Top) or End Of Loop Stop (Bottom)
- (Red/Green) Ring LED Mode (Default: Top half)
A single press advances you thru the 3 options (or colours), while a double press will change the current option to its alternate choice (Top half or Bottom half)
When you have gone thru the 3 options and set them to what you wish, just unplug the RC-1 and power it off. It will restart using the settings you have selected.
The default settings are: Top half of the ring in all 3 colours.
To our knowledge, no Firmware updates exist, nor are any required for the Boss RC-1
